Pon Beach
The locals know it as Nai Yair Beach. This is a beautiful little spot and totally undeveloped. There are a couple of rural shacks and a few cows grazing in the fields. There is a luxury holiday resort perched on the cliff overlooking the beach.
The beach is a mixture of powdery sand and shingle. The seabed is rocky and not well ideal for bathing.
It is a good snorkeling beach. If you swim out about 100 meters from the beach there are some nice coral formations. Not as many fish as at some other locations but some interesting species.
Until recently, the land belonged to the mayor of Patong and he hired a couple of guys to take care of the area and rent out a few sun-loungers. He has recently sold the land for a hefty sum and at the moment nobody is attending it. It must only be a matter of time before they start developing the area into some kind of resort.
It is a very peaceful location. Casuarina trees and coconut palms ring the beach.
Looking across the bay, in the distance you can see Patong Beach, Tri Tra Beach and Paradise Beach.
How to Get There
Drive north passed Nakalay Beach and there is a left hand turn immediately after the Thavorn Beach Village Hotel. The beach is not signposted but believe us, it is there. The road is a little bumpy and steep but the drive is comfortable enough.
Drive along this road for a kilometer and you will see a dirt track on the right signposted to the beach. You can either park your vehicle and walk 300 meters down the track to the beach or if your vehicle is rugged enough you can drive down.
You are crossing private land but at the moment nobody is attending it. If you want to see this beach you may have to hurry as it is sure to be developed in the near future.
