Nai Thon Beach
This beach must win the prize for the squeakiest sand in Phuket. It is a beautiful beach that has so far escaped the major developers.
The kilometer long strip of beach is part of Sirinath National Park. There is no national park entry fee for this beach. The land on the other side of the road is not in the national park but has so far escaped major development. There are a few hotels and shops.
The beach is a stunning strip of fine golden sand that really does squeak under your feet. It slides into the clear waters making a good bathing each.
There is good snorkeling at both headlands with corals to explore and plenty of fish to see.
During the high season there are sun loungers spread along the beach costing 100 baht each. During the low season, there are no sun loungers and the beach is often deserted.
There are dangerous undertows during the rainy season.
How to Get There
This beach is on the winding coast road between Bang Tao and Nai Yang. The road runs right along the beach.
From Bang Tao, get on to the coast road and it will lead you to Mai Thon. The coast road is a little difficult to find if you are coming from this end. Drive north passed the entrance to Laguna. Three kilometers on there is a left hand turn at the start of a right hand bend. This is the coast road.
Alternatively drive north along Thepkrasattri Road and drive straight through Thalang. Turn left at the next traffic lights towards Nai Yang Beach. After about 6km, you will see a left hand turn signposted towards Mai Thon.
